Love: Ruby Kobo.

by Hannah on January 18, 2010

Last week, I had the pleasure of meeting with Yuvi Alpert, one of the two designers behind the new jewelry line Ruby Kobo. Yuvi, the son of a diamond dealer, and Danna Kobo, a seasoned jewelry designer who once worked for Jacob the Jeweler, started the line in early 2009. Yuvi’s laid-back style combined with Danna’s refined eye results in designs that are both casual and elegant, allowing for an effortless transition from day to night.

After backpacking in South America and East Asia, Yuvi fell in love with the mysticism of the ancient East.  As a result, Ruby Kobo combines traditional, high-quality materials such as rubies, white diamonds, black pearls, and 14, 18 and 22 karat gold with truly unique materials discovered during his travels including pavé-lined Hasma hands and Tibetan masks. These spiritual materials convey important themes such as luck, love and the transitory nature of our own existence.

Yuvi was especially passionate about the Tulsi wood beads, a sacred Indian wood  from the Tulsi plant, which is seen as a physical embodiment of the divine. Yuvi also collected one-of-a-kind, intricately designed West Africa beads dating from the 18th century .

Ruby Kobo is meant to be worn daily and layered to create a look that is as unique as the jewelry itself. The casual vibe of the line takes the pretentiousness out of high-quality jewelry making the pieces perfect gifts for loved ones who appreciate exquisite, meaningful jewelry, but without all of the bling bling.
